Short film “Observation du solide aérien” release

Posted in film, graphic by Matthieu Adrien Davy de Virville on 29/09/2010

I’m working on the release of my second short film, shot last winter in S16 mm and still in the editing process.
It will be presented in November, for the new exhibition at the gallery Schirman & De Beaucé in Paris.
This work is coming from an essay i wrote, based on Panamarenko‘s theory concerning airplane design.
More news in a few weeks…

“Untitled-pharmakon” digital sculpture 1st release

Posted in interactive, sculpture by Matthieu Adrien Davy de Virville on 28/09/2010

I designed this digital sculpture during the second year at Le Fresnoy,
National Studio of contemporary arts. I worked in collaboration with the IRCICA CNRS lab,
and the design agency Enzymes. I intended to enhance an existing HGU 2AP flight helmet,
with four cameras and IR sensors, in order to have a 240° tracking field.

The prototype of helmet is capable of detecting whether or not a person is looking at it.
During the real time tracking of this person, a virtual helmet placed in front of the real one
is looking back at him/her, and follows his/her around, creating a close circle of
observation.

Demo of a 3D text editor ( alpha version )

Posted in interactive by Matthieu Adrien Davy de Virville on 25/09/2010

This prototype is based on Jeffrey Shaw’s idea on the use of typeface in a virtual environment (“Legible City”),
i used a Bauhaus typeface designed by Dressler, i still can’t find the exact reference, but it may be related to the
work of Bruno Dressler, whose design was close to Jan Tschichold’s, if i’m correct….
The idea was to go beyond page boundaries, and literally write structures of words rather than 2D spaces.
It’s still in progress, i hope to make a mutli-user version of it some day.

Gameplay demo ( work in progress )

Posted in interactive by Matthieu Adrien Davy de Virville on 24/09/2010

I made this first demo of the basic gameplay for a possible RTS.
The level is presented as an empty world, four locations are placed on the surface, where the player can raise
a certain amount of buildings. He can do that by moving a “building-gun” over the surface, and raise various
type of towers. After the building phase, the player can have an overview of all the “cities”.
The next idea is to program each city to destroy the other cities, and therefore create an entropic situation…

Demo of a 3D interface

Posted in interactive by Matthieu Adrien Davy de Virville on 23/09/2010

I designed this 3D interface for Orange R&D lab.
The main purpose was that the user could access mutliple types of data through one modular interface.
This interface was supposed to be playfull, and have different levels of content into one geometry.
But it was somehow too abstract, and we finally developed something else.

Low poly drone design

Posted in sculpture by Matthieu Adrien Davy de Virville on 22/09/2010

This is a non-realistic quick and dirty model of UCAV, I tried to shape it as a complex articulated drone,
but what it really needs is an animated sequence.

Test for a digital skin

Posted in interactive by Matthieu Adrien Davy de Virville on 21/09/2010

Here’s a quick and dirty test for what i call a virtual reactive surface, or digital skin.
A webcam is tracking the position of the hand, the motion is next converted as a moving point
in a real time 3D environment. As the point is moving over a 3D surface made of multiple bricks,
each brick is reacting depending of its proximity to the moving point, which is creating some
kind of enhanced surface.

Demo of a corrupted medical interface

Posted in interactive by Matthieu Adrien Davy de Virville on 20/09/2010

Here’s an attempt of diverting a medical display of the human skull,
the user can select and break each bone of the skull by rotating sublevels of the display around it.
I produced this demo during a Master Degree in Art and Technology at the Paris VIII University.

Here’s a sample of the first model thought as the breakable object :

Demo of modular interface

Posted in graphic, interactive by Matthieu Adrien Davy de Virville on 18/09/2010

Here’s an example of an interface made with Flash, i tried to have only one level of info.
Through modular panels, the user can display the content of his choice, and adapt the interface to his needs,
all that in real time. The basic physics used here is to enhance a bit the impression of real time reactivity,
which was the main purpose in this matter.
